testing AFCI

Do we go through each unit with an outlet tester and see if there is an arc on the outlet and see if the ARC breaker trips, or are we just testing the ARC breaker in the panel.
We push the test buttons on all GFIs (outlets and breakers) and all AFCIs – we do not use any plug-in testers on anything.
We would therefore NOT test individual outlets that are controlled by a breaker.
