Are closet doors required even if there is no hardware ?

Here we use the principle that if there is no evidence of a closet door having existed at some time, then there is no missing door. If there is no slider track, if there are no hinge mortises, no striker plate hole in the door frame, nothing to indicate that a door was present at one time – then there is no missing door.
