I have always been told that snakes coming up from the toilet is not true. Where can we check this at
our homes?

I'm guessing that once you heard me mention that in a training video you decided you want to check that at home now, eh?

Snakes don’t often come up out of toilets, it’s pretty rare, but I had a neighbor here in Cape Coral who had one. I explained to her about the clean out, and sure enough, she and her husband found that they had an opening into their sewer pipes. I have personally seen a rat jump down into a floor drain and pop up a few minutes later out of another one.

Single family homes usually only have one clean out, and it is usually out in the yard. On houses built in the last 30 years this will usually be a white or black plastic pipe, 4 to 6 inches in diameter. It’s real rare for a Florida house (I knew this person lived in Florida) to have any kind of floor drain other than maybe a shower. For purposes of multifamily management and maintenance, this is usually found in mechanical rooms near an air conditioning air handler and in sprinkler or pump rooms… usually larger buildings.
