Is there a reason we do not require carbon monoxide detectors ?

The original UPCS was written in 1998 when very few municipalities were requiring CO detectors – they were the exception rather than the rule. However, REAC did add CO detectors to the REAC inspection in the last year or so. This has not been written into the UPCS – it takes the form of a special instruction to the inspector on how to notate the number of CO detectors required, the number present and operable, and the number missing or inoperable.
