A timer box is a device that turns activates and deactivates lights or fans or other electrical devices according to a scheduled time. It’s usually a mechanical device that has a timer wheel that rotates and activates a mechanical switch at predetermined hours. The most common type is pictured below.

We usually find these in mechanical rooms, but they can be located almost anywhere. Most commonly, they turn property lights on and off, but they can operate almost anything that you’d want to control by time of day.
