Bowing Walls - If there is a bowing wall in the basement , should we require beams to be installed ?

Important principle: as a UPCS inspector we are only reporting defects, we are not prescribing ways of repairing them. However, if we are conducting a UPCS based inspection on behalf of ownership, we would certainly recommend that an engineer or architect be consulted to help us determine how to properly address a serious problem that is beyond our qualifications, like how to solve a structural problem that could result in the collapse of the building. This forum covers the UPCS - it does not provide a degree in engineering.
